We know insurance changes can raise questions, and we want you to feel informed and confident about your care with us. Below are answers to the most common questions patients have asked about our decision to leave VSP. If you don’t see your question here, please call or text us at (775) 360-6446 — we’re always happy to help.
Why are you dropping VSP?
As an independent, locally owned practice, we are committed to delivering personalized care — the kind that takes time and attention. VSP’s high-volume model doesn’t align with our philosophy of slowing down and giving each patient the focus they deserve. By stepping away, we can stay true to our values and provide care we can be proud of.
Does this change affect Medicare or other medical insurance?
No. This change only affects vision insurance (VSP). We continue to accept and bill Medicare and most major medical insurance plans.
Can my exam be billed to medical insurance instead of paying out of pocket?
We firmly believe that eye care is health care. At the heart of every exam, we are ensuring your eyes are healthy and your visual function is optimized.
Many visits that may feel “routine” actually involve medical findings — whether it’s the symptoms you notice, conditions that run in your family, or other health issues you’ve been diagnosed with. Dry eye, headaches, eyestrain, diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma risk, and much more are all reasons we can bill your medical insurance.
If your visit doesn’t qualify for medical billing, or if we are out of network with your medical insurance, our fees are:
We also offer flexible financing options including CareCredit and Sunbit.
Can I submit to VSP for reimbursement myself?
Yes. Many VSP plans include out-of-network benefits. We will provide you with an itemized receipt and help you complete any necessary forms. Reimbursement amounts vary depending on your specific VSP plan.
Will I still be able to get glasses or contacts through your office?
Yes. You can still purchase glasses and contact lenses directly from us, with access to the same high-quality frames, lenses, and warranties as before. Many patients find our value, expertise, and support well worth continuing their eyewear purchases with us.
Does the VSP change affect specialty services like Myopia Management or Neurolenses?
No. These programs are not typically covered by vision insurance, including VSP, so nothing changes with your care. If you are enrolled in myopia management or wearing Neurolenses, your treatment and follow-up will continue exactly as before. Flexible payment options remain available
